Simos beach is on the southern side of Elafonisos island in Leuki region. It took its name after the diver and sponge fisherman from Kalymnos, Simos, who drowned in the area near Fragko. It consists of two beaches, Fragko and Sarakiniko, which are called “twin beaches”. Simos beach is a lovely beach with thin pebbles and sand hills that reach up to 10m; a forest spreads around both beaches and creates a lovely scenery. The waters are blue-green and the dunes offer natural shade. It is an organized beach with shallow waters that deepen gradually. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean and it was declared a protected area by Natura. In August the beach is full of white sea-lilies. It is opposite of Kythera island, and 4km from Elafonisos town.
