The archeological museum of Ilida was constructed the period 2002-2004 and boasts on the southeast edge of the ancient city, on a slope of the acropolis hill, overlooking the archeological site. The architect Anastasios Birris built this aesthetically beautiful museum, which combines harmoniously the natural exterior with a functional and spacious interior. It has a large reception room, spacious four rooms for displaying the exhibits thematically and an interior yard where the sculptures are exhibited on a mosaic floor depicting the Labours of Hercules (3rd century B.C.).

The exhibits of the museum are dated from the Early Helladic period to the late roman period conveying to the visitor a representative image of the public and private life of ancient Ilida, the capital of Elis and the organizer of the Olympic Games.

In the first room the exhibits fall under the categories of space, prehistory, buildings and professions. In the second room there are exhibits relative to art and local artisanship. The third room displays exhibits concerning cult, burial customs, private life, sports and administration. Finally, in the fourth room are held periodical exhibitions from areas with which Ilida had commercial relations (Athens, Corinth, etc.).

The museum includes also, a collection of clay statuettes and figurines, clay gutters, painted antefixes, marble architectural members, vases, sculptures, gravestones, utensils and coins.
