The museum is situated inside the archaeological site in Lykosoura of Arcadia in order to house the findings from the Sanctuary of Despoina which was excavated near the ancient town of Lykosoura. The museum was founded by Konstantinos Kourouniotis at the end of the previous century. The building was renovated in 1986/87. Among the most important exhibits are sculpture fragments considered to be pieces from, the Complex of the sculptor Damophon, some inscriptions and clay votives of various types from the Sancurary of Despoina (according to the local tradition, she was the daughter of Poseidon). Replicas of the heads of the colossal statues of Despoina, Demeter, Artemis and the Titan Anytos (from the famous “Complex” of Damophon) and a replica of the sacred clothing of the goddesses are exhibited.
