TL;DR

A modern museum with masterfully presented exhibits, showing the codependence between man and nature as well as local animals.

The Museum is situated at mountainous Korinthia and more specifically in Stymphalia. Its main purpose is to show the codependence of man and nature as well as their harmonious coexistence in Stymphalia basin, which is the biggest water basin in Peloponnese. The Museum belongs to the network of thematic museums of Piraeus Group’s cultural foundation. It is near the lake and it was constructed with natural materials.

The museum’s themes are presented in a modern way with videos that show the lake’s formation. Among the exhibits, besides the photos and pictures, you will find animal tracks as well as fossils from the area. In the exhibition there are also species of the local flora and fauna accompanied with their history and evolution throughout the course of time. The visitor can also watch the traditional activities of the people that used to live in the area and visit the lake’s aquarium in order to be informed about the local fish “daska” that can only be found in Stymphalia’s lake. From the Museum’s balcony you can observe the lake’s birds with telescopes. The exhibits come with mock-ups, digital displays and movie projections. The building was constructed by the Municipality and the Forest Inspectorate.
