The folklore museum “Georgios Gennimatas” in Kastanies was built in 1952. At the beginning, it was used as a primary school, the only place of education for the mountainous villages of the region. Later, it accommodated the Kastanies Community Hall and recently the Cultural Association of Kastanies and Polystari founded the folklore museum so as to revive the local traditions and the way of life of the villagers.
In the exhibits of the museum, collected with the donations of the villagers, you can find: furniture, tools, utensils, icons, vigil lamps, candelabras, textiles, embroideries and costumes. Many of the religious exhibits were left unexploited in the nearby churches before the creation of this museum.
