TL;DR

In the interesting folklore museum in Tegea do not miss the representations of old workshops and of traditional rooms.

The folklore museum of Tegea was founded in 1996 and it is located at the beautiful park of Episkopi at Tegea. The museum belongs to the Association of Tegea, established in 1885, which has contributed greatly to the cultural education of the inhabitants in Tegea and in the wider region.

It is housed on the second floor of a beautiful stone building that once accommodated the Housewifery School in Tegea and it is surrounded by the ruins of the ancient temple of Athena Alea and the byzantine church of Koimisis Theotokos (Dormition of the Mother of God).

The rich collection of the museum includes local garments, traditional textiles, embroideries, looms, farming tools, every day utensils and photographs of the Tegea region. There are, also, representations of old workshops, such as a blacksmith’s, a cobbler’s, a chandler’s, a barber’s, a carpenter’s, a smithery and representations of traditional rooms (living-room, bedroom, kitchen, fireplace, wash-room, kneading-room).
