TL;DR

An award-winning unique water power museum, with many interesting exhibits.

The open air Water Power Museum in Dimitsana, unique in the Balkans and one of the few of its kind in the world, was founded in 1997. The museum is situated in Kefalari, about 1km from Dimitsana and occupies about 1,000 square meters, fully written out, looks more professional; else, use m².

In the museum, you will find the baroutomylos (powder mill), where the inhabitants of Dimitsana manufactured powder for the needs of the Revolution in 1821, the water mill, the tannery, the fulling-tub (nerotrivi) where they used to wash woven fabrics (different kinds of blankets, bedcovers and rugs), the flourmill with a horizontal paddle-wheel and others. All the buildings were restored by the ETVA technological institute and now they are owned by Piraeus Bank.

The Museum’s aim is to preserve the tradition and the technological knowledge of the past. In 1999 the Museum was awarded the prize of Europa Nostra and in 2000 it twinned with a museum of the same type in Wallonia of Belgium. It also includes audiovisual material.
