TL;DR

A verdant village near Sparta. It is full of trees, and a celebration is held in 25-28 of October. Nearby are a cave, a spring and a gorge.

One of the more unknown, though beautiful villages of Laconia. The picturesque village is built on the slopes of Taygetus, on an altitude of 750 metres. It is 35 kilometres from Sparta, with 470 residents.

Every year, from 25 to 28 of October, a large celebration is held in the village, dedicated to the chestnut. In the village's centre, boiled and roasted chestnuts are offered, as well as freshly distilled tsipouro, a strong Greek alcoholic beverage. Arna was famous for its chestnuts.

In the village's central square is a plane tree, one of the largest in Europe. It is 30 metres high and its trunk measures 13.80 metres in circumference. Near the village is a gorge, created by the Sminos river, as well as the cave of the Agia Marina springs and an underground river.

The village is full of walnut, chestnut, apple and plane trees, since it has abundant waters.
