Between Kalamata and Kyparissia, on an altitude of 461 metres, on the northwestern part of Messinia is the village of Polythea. It has 154 residents, mainly engaged in animal husbandry and farming, fig farming. The village used to be named Mallikion during the 17th century under the Turkish rule, named after the Turkish agha Mallik, and took its final name in 1954.
