A mountainous hamlet of 190 inhabitants, located at an altitude of 530m, is 20km southwest of Xylokastro. It seems that the name “Rethi” is of Arvanitic origin, meaning “wreath”, as most of the villages’ names in the region. Its inhabitants used to be farmers and cattle-breeders, but today they are more engaged in wine, dry raisins and olive oil production. In 1932 a co-operative for the producers of dry raisin was created. The cultural association “Agios Charalampos” hosts many events and the Riding Center offers escapades with horses and other activities.
