TL;DR

A village of great beauty, of 240 residents, built on the slopes of Taygetus. Sights include a tower, two Byzantine churches and two monasteries.

The village is built on an altitude of 620 metres, on the slopes of Taygetus, about 6 kilometres northeast of Kardamyli, and has about 240 residents. It is a charming village, full of founts, little alleys, stone houses and huge oaks. It took its name from the nightingales that always sing, in Greek called "aidonia", and from its beauty.

The Tower of Captain Kitriniaris is here, as well as the Byzantine churches of Taxiarchis, built in the 13th century, and of Agios Nikolakis, built in 1830. The two historical monasteries of Samuel and of Voidenitsa are also in this village. On the village's entrance is a monument dedicated to the heroic resistance of its residents.

The village produces large quantities of organic olive oil.
