TL;DR

A village near the coasts of the Corinthian Gulf, with many churches and agricultural-oriented industries.

The village of Velo is located near the coasts of the Corinthian Gulf, 16km away from Corinth. It has approximately 3,100 residents, who are mainly occupied with agriculture and animal husbandry. The village houses small industries for preparing and packaging agricultural products for the market, due to its production of fruits and vegetables. In Velo, visitors can see the church of Agia Marina, which is built on top of an older church, and has been destroyed by earthquakes twice. This majestic church is the first one designed by Ernst Ziller. One can also visit the churches of Profitis Ilias, Agios Georgios, Agios Tryfonas, Agios Fanourios, Agios Nektarios, and many more while in the area. The village got its name from a Turk pasha ('lord'), who was called 'Veli Pasha'. The river Asopos flows through Velo, running into the area between Velo and Kiato. It's total length is 40km, and in ancient times, its estuary housed the main port of the ancient city of Sikyona. It also worth noting that the area is one of the most earthquake-prone in Greece.
